To worship a ball is such a man.
To move it accurately is the plan.
It must go here. Now it must go there.
The path of motion is given great care.
My team is the one that I want to win.
If not, then committing, is a great sin.
They don’t win. I go home. Give a short pout.
Another round of beer, for this, the next bout.
Study the stats. And also, the players.
To win next time, he gives many prayers.
A game tomorrow. He’s getting excited.
Playing a lesser team, now so delighted.
Will he watch at home or go to the bar?
He’ll have a few drinks. The bar isn’t far.
A way to satisfy his other great glut.
The nearby lounge has breasts and butt.
The game of the ball is so much the center of his life.
A devoted fan of his team, maybe more than his wife.
Got tickets for the game. Played the next day.
Completely forgot. It was his wife’s birthday.
Celebrated her day of birth and fame.
Inside, he would rather be at the game.
His son he forces to suit up and play ball sports.
His son would rather be surfing in colorful shorts.
The kid does poorly, so his dad makes the call.
The son who he loves, will play another ball.
Still does badly. Dad scolds him like it was a sin.
Time for a mom to bring compassion, and step in.
Asks him, "Do you want to raise a man or a kid."
"Our son loves water. Let him give surfing a bid."
He surfed great. Put other contestants to shame.
As he accepted the trophy, Dad listened to the game.
Years go by. Son and Dad slowly grow apart.
One, a sports fan. The other, a surfer at heart.
Their son has a wife. Surfed into fame.
Dad still lived and breathed the game.
Christmas and Thanksgiving, they still get together.
Don’t talk about much. Just maybe the weather.
The son said,” Your team is doing well I see."
Dad’s eyes opened. Glowed with such glee.
Gives Dad a heavy envelope. Was opened with a pry.
Two tickets to the big game. Dad fought a cry.
His boy pledged they would go together.
Be it great, or terrible wicked weather.
The day of the game, they cheered for a high score.
Drinking beer together. A family once more.
