The morning sun shines through a window so bright.

Light upon a patient enduring his life’s plight.

In through the door walks an angel of flesh.

Trying to smile and help his spirit be fresh.

She forces a smile, as the room she came from.

Was that of a person whose future looks quite glum.

Helping him through a single step of life.

Doing her best to lessen his strife.

This person with her now will be OK.

But to others who won’t. What does she say?

Carefully checks the vitals that he has.

Does this upbeat. With a little pizzazz.

Trying to move him from his emotional low.

He’s a really great patient. With a special glow.

Her task is done. Her duties through.

As she leaves the room he says, “Thank you.”

It warms her heart as she walks down the hall.

Into the next room, for her heart does fall.

In the room, a victim of a driver drunk.

She lost her leg. Her purpose is sunk.

Her life is ruined. With a heavy, broken heart.

The nurse tries to help. Explaining a new start.

She says she must leave. Surrendering her gloom.

Leaves her slowly. To go to the next room.

Her patience must grow. Emotions she must shelve.

For now, the mean man in room number two-twelve.

She enters the room smiling. How are you doing?

Out comes the hate that he has been brewing.

"Where the hell have you been? What took you so long?"

"I’m miserable. And you are doing this all wrong."

"So hungry am I. And I want a drink!"

And so, her feelings do slowly sink.

She does her task. It doesn’t take long.

Works even greater to remain so strong.

Leaves the room. Gives one big sigh.

To the next room to care, help and try.

Code blue is called. She moves, quick of start.

Runs to a room praying. Pushing the Crash Cart.

They try really hard. But it’s sadly too late.

The patient is now at Heaven’s pearly gate.

Another tear she cries deep inside her soul.

It’s hard when helping people is your goal.

Back to her rounds. People to check on.

Caring for people. The day is soon gone.

Eleven hours of twelve is where she is at.

And another good nurse is up to bat.

Hands off the shift. This must be.

The new nurse is a life’s trustee.

She leaves the hospital. Home the human Angel goes.

Her car blends into traffic. Which car? Nobody knows.

She is just another person. In public, you haven’t a clue.

If she’s nearby. You collapse. She will try to save you.
